Pita Bread

Pita bread is not too different from making any other bread.

Ingredients:

  • 4 cups flour
  • 1 tablespoons active dry yeast
  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoons salt
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1 1/4 cups warm water
  • Spray bottle

Instructions:

Mix sugar with 1/2 cup of the warm water and add yeast.  Let yeast work its magic for 10 minutes.

Put flour in a stand mixer or food processor with a dough hook (or you can do this by hand)

Make a well in the middle of the flour, add yeast mixture and olive oil.

Start to knead and add water until it reaches a proper dough ball consistency.

Add salt and knead slowly for 10 minutes.

Place dough ball in an oiled bowl and cover with a towel.  Set in a warm area for 60 minutes.  Make sure the bowl is larger so that the dough can rise and not touch the towel.

Preheat over AND a baking sheet in the oven to 460 degrees F.

Remove dough ball and place on floured surface.  Punch down.

Divide ball into 8 smaller balls.

Let your balls rest for 15 minutes.

Roll out each ball to a flatness of 1/2″.

Spray each loaf with water and place on hot baking sheet.

Bake for 5-6 minutes.
